Information about the 55th Nationwide Japanese Speech Contest

This coming May 24th,the 55th "Japanese Speech Contest for Foreigners" will be held in Matsue City,Shimane Prefecture.

This is one of the most prestigious speech contests in Japan. After the contest has ended,the speeches will be broadcast on NHK Educational TV,and the best speeches will be studied by Japanese junior high school and high school students as part of their Japanese language curriculum. This is a rare opportunity to send a message to the entire country,so if you're interested,please apply using the contact details below.

We also have some application forms in the KIEA office on the 5th floor of Kanoya City Hall.

Criteria for applying

  1. The applicant"s native language must be a language other than Japanese.
  2. The applicant must be at least 15 years old on the day of the contest.
  3. The applicant must not have previously received the Foreign Minister’s Prize or the Education and Culture Minister’s Prize
