Alien Registration
All foreign nationals residing in Japan are required to register
with City Hall, except:
- Those with special disembarkation permission for temporary landing, shore landing, transit landing, crew landing, emergency or disaster landing.
- Diplomats, government officials and members Civilian employees of the Uniteds States and the United Nation and their dependents. (those staying in Japan for less than 90 days, and any child born in Japan who will be leaving the country within 60 days of birth are not required to register)
- For alien registration and related procedures, please conduct the procedures in the Alien Registration counter in Citizen’s Affairs Division (Main City Hall 1F).
Applications are not accepted in Branch Offices, Local Stations, or Service Corners.

Application | In the event of loss or destruction of your alien registration card, you must apply for a new card within 14 days. |

Application | In the event of a change of residence, you must update your card within 14 days of moving. |

Notes | The City Hall will verify your new address, enter it on your alien registration card and return it to you. |
Other Changes
Application | In the event of changes to name, nationality, occupation, workplace, status of residency, period of stay etc, you must update your alien registration card within 14 days of the change. |
